Dementia Lab Research is a research group that is dedicated to designing objects, tools and services for the growing needs and populations of people with dementia and their network of care. Next to this, we research and develop methods and processes that support the involvement of people with dementia, their family and professional caregiver in the design process.

For nearly a decade, Dementia Lab Research has been asking the following questions: how can we design tools for people with dementia that meet the demands of individuals, care givers and family members? How can we be sensitive to the demands of a healcare work setting? How can the individual's own lived experience foster into personalisation within a particular design?

We are active as:

  • Designers - we have been active in various disciplines (from product design to digital design; from service design over the creation of methods)

  • Researchers - our main focus of our research tries to bring to the front the voice for those we design for, taking into account a systemic approach.

  • Consultants: we support a variety of organisations not only in their work for people with dementia, but also for other groups who are in need of support (we have worked together with groups as varied as children with autism or people with severe cognitive and intellectual disabilities)

  • Educators: the lessons we have learned have been used as a starting point for new cross-national research projects and international educational initiatives.

Working with the Dementia Lab is easy.
